Kevin Wilczewski
Kevin Wilczewski is a young German painter and draughtsman from Würzburg who explores the effects of social media on themes such as ideals of beauty and transience in his distinctive pop art paintings.
From the perspective of a young consumer culture, he creates expressive acrylic paintings that move between self-perception and social criticism.
In his large-format portraits, he depicts a wide variety of characters - from the beautiful stranger to the international star - and illustrates them with characteristic stylistic devices that have their origins in the street art and graffiti scene. Playful "drips" are combined with striking color gradients before a refining veil of color shifts the focus from beauty based on outward appearances to inner, conceptual values.
"With my portraits, I emphasize the urge for perfection and at the same time show how fleeting beauty can be. In doing so, I want to question our behavior and our view of such ideals, which we encounter every day in advertising and on social media."
Wilczewski now lives in Würzburg, where he has already worked on various creative projects for brands such as Adidas and S.Oliver. His work has been presented at numerous national exhibitions in Germany as well as internationally in Barcelona and Miami, for example, and can be found in various private collections in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, France and the USA. His current works from the series "What's beautiful?" confront the viewer with the question "What is beautiful?" and encourage them to question their own perception of beauty.
Are you enough for yourself? And what does beauty mean to you?
