Betty Schmidt
My photographic works are moving pictures; I deliberately use blurring, cross-fading and blurring as stylistic devices and thus want to take the viewer's perception out of the usual real photography.
I call it painting with the camera - the motifs are created because I am also moving. I don't place the camera on a tripod, but guide it during the exposure time by moving my body as if I had a paintbrush in my hand. The use of my body, paired with a long exposure, causes the Brocken Tower to dance or the forest and trees to vibrate rhythmically. The contours dissolve and the pictures look as if they have been painted. It is an exciting way to photograph, each motif is a unique piece, because unlike in conventional photography, it cannot be reproduced.
